Beschreibung

1-Octyl-2-pyrrolidone is a nonpolar solvent that has been shown to be compatible with many organic compounds and solvents. It is used in analytical methods to measure the viscosity of glycol ethers and fatty acids. 1-Octyl-2-pyrrolidone has been shown to have a phase equilibrium between its liquid and gas forms at room temperature, which can be attributed to its high viscosity. It also has chemical stability, which makes it useful as an additive in paint, varnish, lacquer, and other coatings. 1-Octyl-2-pyrrolidone also acts as a corrosion inhibitor, preventing the deterioration of metal surfaces by forming a protective layer on the surface of metals that prevents further corrosion. This property is important for transportation where metals are exposed to corrosive environments such as salt water.
