n-Octyltrichlorosilane is a liquid that is used to produce water vapor. In a gravimetric analysis, it has been found to have a formation rate of 3.06 grams per mole of chlorine atoms and a boiling point of -78 degrees Celsius. It is soluble in hydrochloric acid and hydrogen fluoride, but not in water. n-Octyltrichlorosilane has a very low surface tension, which makes it suitable for transporting the chemical species without the hydrophobic effect. The main chemical reactions are with cationic surfactants (which are positively charged) and high salt concentrations.
