Beschreibung:1-Octanethiol is a low potency molecule that is used as a solvent. It can be synthesized by reacting n-dimethyl formamide with an acid complex. 1-Octanethiol has been shown to be an effective catalyst for the synthesis of carbohydrates. The reaction solution was found to be acidic, with the addition of hydrochloric acid, and the kinetic energy was determined to be less than 20 kcal/mol. The structural analysis of 1-octanethiol has been performed using infrared spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. This compound has also been used as a model system for infectious diseases and carbohydrate chemistry due to its ability to bind to sugars.
