• Beschreibung: D-Pantolactone is a lactone that is produced by the bacterial strain Pantoea agglomerans. It is an intermediate in the biosynthesis of pantothenic acid and calcium pantothenate. D-Pantolactone has been shown to have inhibitory properties against HIV infection, but it is not active against other viruses. D-Pantolactone binds to the enzyme hydrolase and blocks the transfer of a proton from ATP to ADP, inhibiting the production of ATP and leading to cell death. The reaction solution for D-pantolactone can be analyzed using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR) or high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
