1H,1H-Pentadecafluorooctyl methacrylate (PFOM) is a high resistance monomer that is used for the preparation of other polymers. It has a variety of functional groups, such as carboxylic acid and hydroxyl, which impart flexibility and water-resistance to the polymer. PFOM is an organic solvent that can be used for stabilizing monomers during polymerization reactions. This monomer also has a stabilizing effect on the morphology of the polymer particles. PFOM is a perfluorinated compound and can be used in supercritical fluids or acetonitrile as solvents when synthesizing small molecules. The 1H,1H-pentadecafluorooctyl group provides PFOM with excellent resistance to solvents and oxidants. PFOM is also resistant to laser ablation in contrast with other monomers.
