N-[(Phenylmethoxy)carbonyl]-L-valyl-N-[3-fluoro-1-(2-methoxy-2-oxoethyl)-2-oxopropyl]-L-alaninamide (NPMCA) is a potent inhibitor of the polymerase chain reaction (PCR). It binds to dsDNA and inhibits the activity of caspases, including caspase 3 and caspase 9. NPMCA also has an inhibitory effect on the death of neuronal cells, due to its ability to inhibit the release of cytochrome C from mitochondria. This drug also induces apoptosis in several cell models, including human lymphocytes, leukemia cells, and pancreatic cancer cells.
