It also reacts with fatty acid and monoacylglycerol, which are drug targets for the prevention of hyperlipidemia. In vitro studies have shown that 4-phenoxybenzonitrile potently inhibits potassium phosphate uptake by cells. The reaction mechanism for this inhibition is not known, but it may involve a palladium-catalyzed coupling.
