Beschreibung

2-Propyl-1H-benzimidazole is a potent inhibitor of bacterial growth. It is a molecule that consists of two propyl groups and a benzimidazole group. This compound inhibits bacterial growth by binding to the surface of metal ions, such as copper, iron, and zinc. 2-Propyl-1H-benzimidazole has been shown to be an effective inhibitor in both Langmuir adsorption isotherms and potentiodynamic polarization experiments. The molecule also has antibacterial activity against both gram positive and gram negative bacteria, including methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). 2-Propyl-1H-benzimidazole binds to the metal surface of the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase, which catalyzes the synthesis of folic acid from dihydrofolate and tetrahydrofolate.
