The molecule can inhibit the growth of fungi by binding to their cell wall, inhibiting the synthesis of proteins required for fungal cell division. 1H-Pyrazolo[3,4-b]pyridine has been found to bind to both bacterial and human DNA gyrase enzymes, as well as human topoisomerase IV enzymes.
