(+)-Phyllodulcin is a compound that belongs to the class of p-hydroxybenzoic acid. It can be synthesized from (+)-catechin and cinnamic acid in an asymmetric synthesis with preparative HPLC. The chemical stability of this compound has been evaluated by in vitro assays, which indicate that (+)-phyllodulcin is stable at pH 4-6 but hydrolyzes at pH 7-8. This compound has been shown to have plant physiology activities such as inhibiting fatty acid biosynthesis and promoting hydroxylation reactions. The light exposure of (+)-phyllodulcin is also important for its biological activity as it induces the release of protocatechuic acid and other phenolic compounds, which are natural compounds that have antioxidant properties.
