Beschreibung

1-(1H-Pyrrolo[2,3-b]pyridin-3-yl)ethanone (1HPPE) is a novel acidic compound that inhibits tumor growth. 1HPPE has been shown to inhibit the tyrosine kinase activity of ATP binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1), which is involved in the transport of cholesterol and phospholipids from the plasma membrane to intracellular compartments. This inhibition leads to reduced lipid synthesis and cell death by apoptosis. 1HPPE also blocks the function of ABCG2, an ATP binding cassette transporter that mediates cellular cholesterol efflux, thereby inhibiting tumor growth. The molecular mechanism of action of 1HPPE on colorectal carcinoma cells is similar to that of variolin, a synthetic polyketide macrolactam with potent chemotherapeutic activity against cancerous cells.
