5-Phenyloxazole is a fluorescent probe that has been shown to be photostable and resistant to photochemical decomposition. It has been used as a reagent for the detection of primary amines, such as chloride, in water samples. The fluorescence spectrum of 5-phenyloxazole exhibits intense emission bands at wavelengths of 330 nm, 495 nm, and 615 nm when excited with ultraviolet light. This compound can be used as an ancillary additive to improve the photophysical properties of other compounds.
