Beschreibung

Pentabromodiphenyl ether is a chlorinated organic compound that has been used in the past as a flame retardant. It is also an effective biocide for wastewater treatment and has been shown to have cholinergic activity, which may be due to its ability to bind with the acetylcholine receptor. Pentabromodiphenyl ether is not toxic to mammals, but has been shown to cause adverse effects in aquatic organisms such as fish and amphibians. It has also been shown to act as a matrix effector of enzymes and other molecules in biological samples. The EPA reports that pentabromodiphenyl ether does not accumulate in adipose tissue, but does remain detectable in the blood for up to 12 hours after exposure.
