It has also been shown to have an ATP binding cassette transporter and has been used in biochemical research to study energy metabolism. Protoporphyrin IX disodiumsalt is also able to induce apoptosis in t-cell lymphomas. Protoporphyrin IX disodiumsalt is a long-term toxicity agent, which can be used for laser ablation and fluorescence probe studies.
