This active form inhibits the activity of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced signal peptide activation of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-κB), which leads to reduced inflammation. Palmitoleic acid has also been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties in vitro and in vivo, which may be due to its ability to inhibit IL-1β production by macrophages.
