It reacts with ethyl groups at temperatures between 40 and 130 degrees Celsius, but does not react with other functional groups. cis-2-Pentene has been shown to activate covid-19 pandemic and has also been shown to have photocatalytic activity when exposed to UV light. cis-2-Pentene is reactive and can be produced by reacting ethylbenzene with hydrogen in the presence of a cocatalyst, such as titanium tetrachloride. This reaction mechanism also produces ethylbenzene, which can be purified by passing it through a solid phase microextraction column before being passed through a chemical reactor for mass spectrometric detection.
