It inhibits the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines by binding to glucocorticoid receptors in the cytosol. This inhibitory effect leads to decreased inflammation. Paramethasone acetate also has anti-inflammatory effects on inflammatory diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis. The drug can be administered orally or topically. Oral administration is preferred due to less side effects and better absorption through the digestive tract. Topical administration should be avoided with children under 2 years of age because it may cause benzalkonium chloride toxicity, which can lead to erythema and skin irritation at the site of application.
