• Beschreibung: Pentylenetetrazole is a pharmacological agent that binds to the dextran sulfate receptor, which is expressed on the surface of neutrophils. This binding inhibits bacterial growth by preventing the release of hydrogen tartrate from bacteria and reduces the production of MMP-9, an enzyme that breaks down connective tissue. Pentylenetetrazole has been shown to be effective against bacteria in vitro and in vivo. The drug also binds to adenosine A3 receptors, which are found on brain cells. Binding to these receptors inhibits neuronal death by modulating glutamate neurotransmission. Pentylenetetrazole has been used as an analytical method for determining the level of MMP-9 activity in biological samples. This drug has not been evaluated for its effects on disease activity or for antimicrobial activity.
