• Beschreibung: Phantolide is a synthetic compound with the structural formula CHClNOS. It is used as a wastewater treatment agent, specifically for removing nitrogen and phosphorus from wastewater. Phantolide reacts with primary alcohols to form cationic polymers that are effective in binding to matrix metalloproteinases in the headspace of the waste water. This inhibits the activity of these enzymes, preventing them from degrading the organic compounds in wastewater (e.g., urea). As a result, this process reduces the release of nitrogen and phosphorus into water bodies.
