Control agents such as benzalkonium chloride or microcapsules can then be used for complete elimination and prevention. 2-Phenylpropionic acid ethyl ester also inhibits the growth of fungi by interfering with their cell membranes and inhibiting their respiration. It has also been shown to have antifungal properties against Malic Acid and Ethyl Bromoacetate, which are both organic acids found in plants.
