• Beschreibung: 1-Phenyl-tetrahydrocarboline (1PT) is a selective inhibitor of l-tartaric acid that has been shown to be effective against the promastigote and amastigote stages of Leishmania infantum. 1PT inhibits the growth of Leishmania by inhibiting the activity of enzymes involved in the production of aldehydes from l-tartaric acid. This leads to an accumulation of acetaldehyde, which is toxic to leishmanial cells. 1PT also has anti-leishmanial properties, as it inhibits lipid peroxidation and decreases mitochondrial membrane potential. It also increases intracellular glutathione levels, leading to increased oxidative stress on leishmanial cells.
