D-Pipecolic acid is a natural compound that has been shown to have broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It has been shown to be effective in vitro against E. coli, S. aureus, S. typhimurium, and P. aeruginosa. D-Pipecolic acid inhibits the growth of these bacteria by reacting with their disulfide bonds, which are essential for the formation of their cell walls and outer membranes. D-pipecolic acid also exerts effects on immune cells such as leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) and pluripotent cells (induced pluripotent stem cells).
