Beschreibung:Propofol is a potent intravenous anaesthetic agent that binds to the α1 subunit of the voltage-gated calcium channel. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) in the cytosol and prevents DNA replication. Propofol also inhibits blood cell production, which may be due to its ability to scavenge anion radicals. This drug also induces significant cytotoxicity, so it should not be used for long periods of time or in high doses. Propofol is used as an anaesthetic during surgery and can cause sedation when administered in low doses.
