Beschreibung

Pulegone is a monoterpene with a camphor-like odor. It is used as an insecticide and pesticide, and in perfumery. Pulegone has been shown to have antiviral properties against influenza A virus in vitro. It also has anti-inflammatory and antipyretic effects on rats. Pulegone inhibits the enzyme glutamate pyruvate transaminase, which regulates the metabolism of amino acids. It is not genotoxic or carcinogenic, but it does cause acute toxicity in rats when administered at high doses.

Pulegone was shown to have significant antifungal activity against Candida albicans in vitro. The mechanism of action for its antifungal activity may be due to its ability to inhibit transcriptional regulation by binding to DNA polymerase II.
