Beschreibung

1-(3-Pyridyl)-1,4-butanediol is a product of the metabolism of the amino acid tryptophan. It has been shown to inhibit the production of kynurenine in vitro studies and in vivo models. This compound also has dose-dependent effects on carbonyl reduction in vitro and in vivo models. It has been shown that 1-(3-pyridyl)-1,4-butanediol can reduce the levels of acetaldehyde and other reactive carbonyls when used at doses of 2 mg/kg/day for 10 days. The effect was most pronounced when this drug was administered before exposure to tobacco smoke.
