N-Phenyloxindole is a pharmacological agent that belongs to the class of oxindoles. It has been used in cancer research as an active substance for the treatment of cancer. N-Phenyloxindole has been shown to have anti-tumour activity and cytotoxicity in animal models, but it has not yet been tested on humans. The mechanism may be due to its ability to inhibit tyrosine kinase and cellular growth factor receptors, which results in decreased cell proliferation.
N-Phenyloxindole also inhibits viral polymerase activity by alkylating the enzyme's active site. This drug can also inhibit the replication of HIV by inhibiting the NS5B polymerase, which is an important enzyme in HIV replication.
