This binding leads to an increase in the number of electrons that can be transferred from the molecule to the cell, which prevents phosphorylation reactions from occurring. The result is a decrease in protein synthesis, leading to cell death. 4-Pyridin-4-yl-benzaldehyde also has antimalarial properties and can be used as a fluorescent probe for xanthine oxidase activity.
