Beschreibung

Potassium persulfate is a chemical compound that is used in the treatment of wastewater and in the production of polymers. It is also used as an oxidant to produce sulfonic acid derivatives, such as trifluoroacetic acid. The reaction mechanism of potassium persulfate with sodium carbonate involves the formation of hydrogen peroxide, which reacts with sodium hydroxide to form sodium percarbonate. This reaction occurs rapidly at high pH values and high temperatures. Potassium persulfate can be used for chemiluminescence methods, where it produces light after reacting with a catalyst, such as phosphorus pentoxide or anhydrous sodium. This light can be used to measure concentration levels in the reactions solution. Potassium persulfate has been shown to cause damage to human liver cells and should not be administered orally or intravenously because of its potential for adverse effects on the organs.
