Beschreibung

3-(2-Pyridyl)propionic acid is a protonated pyridine-based inhibitor of topoisomerase. It has been shown to inhibit topoisomerase I and II, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of DNA by relieving torsional strain in the double helix. 3-(2-Pyridyl)propionic acid also has been shown to inhibit other enzymes such as alcohol dehydrogenase and hydrogenases, which are involved in the metabolism of various drugs and endogenous compounds. This compound can be used to analyze cardiac contractility in vitro. 3-(2-Pyridyl)propionic acid is also an inhibitor of chelerythrine, a cancer drug that inhibits protein synthesis. The carboxylate group on 3-(2-Pyridyl)propionic acid makes it a protonated form of 2-pyridinecarboxylic acid.
