1-Pentynyl Iodide is a wittig reagent that is used in organic synthesis. It has a hydrophobic cavity and is odourless. When combined with dendrons, 1-pentynyl iodide elongates them and causes them to self-assemble into complex structures. In nature, this compound is believed to act as a bombykol ligand in the biosynthesis of pheromones in insects such as the silk moth.
