6-Phenylnicotinaldehyde is a phenylating agent that can be used in the synthesis of various chemical compounds. It has been shown to cleave amine, hydrazine, and amino acid bonds, as well as form adducts with nucleophiles. 6-Phenylnicotinaldehyde also has the ability to convert back to its original state when exposed to light or air. This reaction is an example of autoxidation and bond cleavage. These reactions are chemoselective in that they only take place at carbon-carbon double bonds.
