Beschreibung

Punicalagin is a mixture of α+β-punicalagins, which are ellagitannins from the pomegranate fruit. It is a powerful inhibitor of bacterial growth and has been shown to reduce the expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in human monocytes. Punicalagin also has immunosuppressive activities and may be useful for cancer therapy. This compound inhibits the production of inflammatory cytokines by inhibiting the activation of nuclear factor kappa B and protein kinase Cδ. In addition, punicalagin enhances autophagy in human colon cancer cells by upregulating the expression of genes that promote this process.
