Beschreibung

2-Phenylbutyric acid is a chiral carboxylic acid that can be synthesized from phenylacetic acid. The compound has a homochiral nature and the two enantiomers have different physical properties. The (-)-enantiomer is fluorescent, while the (+)-enantiomer is not. 2-Phenylbutyric acid can be used in the production of luminescent materials and as an enantioindicator in organic synthesis. 2-Phenylbutyric acid also exhibits dichroism spectra and can be used to measure the optical rotation of other compounds by using polarized light.
