2-Quinoxalinol is a quinoxaline derivative, which has been found to be active against bacterial strains. 2-Quinoxalinol shows light emission when reacted with trifluoroacetic acid and amines, which may be due to the intramolecular hydrogen transfer from the nitrogen atoms to the oxygen atom of the amine group. The reaction mechanism for this compound is not yet fully understood. 2-Quinoxalinol has been shown to have antiinflammatory properties in experimental models, as well as antioxidant and nitro protective effects. It also inhibits enzymes such as cyclooxygenase, lipoxygenase, and phospholipases A2.
