Resatorvid is a drug that inhibits the activity of ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter proteins, which are involved in the transport of cholesterol from peripheral tissues to the liver. It has been shown to be effective in reducing bowel disease activity and improving response to treatment in patients with Crohn's disease. Resatorvid also binds to DNA and is thought to inhibit transcriptional activation of inflammatory genes by blocking the binding of nuclear receptors that regulate these genes. Resatorvid may also have anti-inflammatory effects through inhibition of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) signaling pathways. This drug is not approved for use in humans but has shown promise as a potential pharmacological agent for treating myocardial infarcts and neuronal death.
