• Beschreibung: Rhenium (III) iodide is an ionic compound of rhenium and iodine. It is soluble in water and has a melting point of about 110°C. Elemental analysis shows that it consists of one atom of rhenium for every three atoms of iodine. The anion, R3I-, crystallizes with the same symmetry as the elemental form, but its crystal structure can be described as consisting of alternating layers of iodides and carboxylates. Crystal x-ray diffraction studies show that these layers are stacked in a hexagonal pattern, with two adjacent layers offset by 0.37 nm. X-ray diffraction studies have also shown that pyridine binds to this complex ion through a covalent bond via its nitrogen atom, forming a mononuclear complex ion with coordination number 6.
