Rac-1-linolenoyl-3-chloropropanediol is an ester that is formed by the reaction of linolenic acid with chloroform. Rac-1-linolenoyl-3-chloropropanediol has been identified as a major compound in human milk and can be used to identify breast milk samples. The identification of rac 1-linolenoyl-3-chloropropanediol can be accomplished using a quadrupole mass spectrometer and fluid chromatography. This compound can also be used for the analysis of fatty acid esters such as methyl oleate, ethyl palmitate, and octadecenoic acid. These compounds are analyzed by supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC).
