Rac cis-3-hydroxy glyburide is a chromatographic drug used to treat diabetics. It is metabolized in the liver and excreted through the bile. Rac cis-3-hydroxy glyburide binds to ferredoxin, which increases the amount of glucose that can be converted into energy by cells. Rac cis-3-hydroxy glyburide has been shown to lower blood glucose levels in diabetic patients. In vitro studies have demonstrated that rac cis-3-hydroxy glyburide can be detected in human serum at concentrations of 25 ng/ml or higher and has a half life of 3 hours. The compound is also detectable in urine at concentrations of 2 ng/ml or higher with a half life of 3 hours.
Rac cis-3-hydroxy glyburide was detected using fluorimetric detection at UV wavelength maxima of 260 nm, which corresponds to the absorption maxima for the compound's conjugated double
