Beschreibung

Rotenone is a chemical pesticide that has been used in agriculture and animal control. It inhibits mitochondrial membrane potential, which causes the release of pro-apoptotic protein into the cytoplasm. Rotenone has also been used as a model system to study cell death in mammalian cells. This chemical is toxic to both insects and mammals, inhibiting mitochondrial function and leading to neuronal death. Rotenone has been shown to cause caspase-independent cell death in human HL-60 cells, which may be due to its ability to inhibit polymerase chain reaction (PCR) activity.
