It has shown cardioprotective effects in vitro, which may be due to its ability to inhibit the activity of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE). Scyliorhinin I H-Ala-Lys-Phe-Asp-Lys-Phe-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Met NH2 also inhibits the production of ACTH and corticosterone in the dogfish. This peptide is not highly potent, but it does have a biphasic response in submandibular gland cells.
