6-Hydroxy-4-methyl-2-oxo-1,2-dihydropyridine-3-carbonitrile (6HOMC) is a synthetic compound that belongs to the class of heterocyclic amines. It has antimycobacterial activity against mycobacteria and is used in the synthesis of 4-hydroxycoumarin. 6HOMC is produced by reacting 4,6-dimethylaniline with phosphorus oxychloride in an organic solvent. The chemical structure of this compound includes a hydroxy group and a nitrogen atom, which are both nucleophilic. 6HOMC reacts with sulfoxide to produce diazonium salt, which can be converted into a gold electrode.
