Beschreibung

Silicon is a chemical element with the symbol Si and atomic number 14. A reactive nonmetal, silicon is found in many materials such as sand and rocks, which are used to make cement and glass. Silicon is also a key component of many important compounds such as silicone, silicates, and phosphates. Silicon's most common oxidation state is +4, but it can also be -4 when bonded to oxygen or other elements. It has an electronegativity of 1.1 on the Pauling scale. Silicon's reaction mechanism involves the formation of a bond between silicon atoms and the release of hydrogen gas or hydrocarbons. The thermal expansion coefficient of silicon is 7x10^-6/°C at 25°C. This means that for every degree Celsius change in temperature, silicon will expand by 7x10^-6 cm/cm3 (or 7x10^-6 meters/meter3).
