This agent also inhibits atp-sensitive potassium channels, leading to decreased K+ conductance. This results in increased membrane potentials, which may contribute to its protective effect against bowel disease. In addition, sodium hydrosulfide hydrate has been shown to inhibit cancer cells from proliferating by interfering with their ability to synthesize DNA via inhibiting polymerase chain reaction. The chemical's effects on physiological functions are not well understood.
