2-Stearoyl-rac-glycerol (2SRL) is a lipoprotein lipase inhibitor that has been shown to reduce the rate of fat absorption in the intestines and promote weight loss in human studies. It is produced by hydrogenating glycerides under high pressure and temperature, which converts the glycerides into 2SRL. The 2SRL molecule inhibits the production of fatty acids from triglycerides, as well as the production of cholesterol. The molecule also stimulates glucose uptake by cells, which may be due to its ability to bind to type 1 glycans and act as an acyl chain carrier protein. 2SRL has been shown to be a bioactive phytochemical that can inhibit cancer cell proliferation and induce apoptosis in vitro.
