Solvent red 130 can be used as an additive in the production of paints, plastics, and rubber. The hydroxyl group on the molecule allows it to react with amines to form polymers for use in photopolymerizable systems. Solvent red 130 also acts as a polymerization initiator when exposed to radiation or light.
