5-Sulfosalicilic acid dihydrate is a sulfa drug that inhibits the growth of bacteria by blocking the conversion of folic acid to dihydrofolic acid. This product is used in sample preparation, such as for DNA sequencing. 5-Sulfosalicilic acid dihydrate has been shown to be genotoxic, with significant inhibition of human serum replication and linear calibration curves. It also shows hydrogen bonding and coordination geometry properties and can be used as an analytical reagent in analytical chemistry.
