Beschreibung:a-Septithiophene is a synthetic compound that is used in the diagnosis of prostate cancer. It has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) and insulin sensitivity, and also inhibits the serine protease activity of proteinase 3 and aminopeptidase N. a-Septithiophene has also been shown to be an antagonist of the amp-activated protein kinase, which regulates glucose metabolism. The drug crystallizes as two different polymorphs: one with a melting point of 142°C and another with a melting point of 150°C. A single crystal X-ray diffraction study has shown that these two forms are distinct molecules with different molecular structures.
