Beschreibung

(-)-Secologanin is a natural product that is structurally similar to the terpene phenols, such as salicylic acid and resorcinol. (-)-Secologanin has been shown to inhibit enzyme activities involved in the synthesis of prostaglandins and other biologically active compounds in vitro. Structural analysis revealed that (-)-secologanin has an α-hydroxy group, which may be responsible for its antiinflammatory activity by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. (-)-Secologanin is also able to prevent the induction of COX-2 gene expression by lipopolysaccharide (LPS), suggesting that it may be a promising natural candidate for the treatment of inflammatory diseases.
