Beschreibung

2,4,6-Triphenylpyrylium fluoroborate (TPBF) is a nucleophilic boron reagent that is used for the synthesis of chiral carbon nanotubes. It can be prepared in two steps from boron trifluoride etherate and phenylacetaldehyde. TPBF is commercially available with the trade names Triphenylpyrylium
Fluoroborate or Tris(2,6-dichlorophenyl)pyridinium
Fluoroborate. TPBF reacts with amines to form a bond cleavage product and an ethyl ester. The nucleophilic attack of the electrophile on the carbonyl group of 4-hydroxycinnamic acid results in formation of an intermediate enolate which undergoes a second nucleophilic attack by hydroxylamine to form the final product.
