3-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine is a n-oxide that can be synthesized by the reaction of halides with water vapor in the presence of chlorine. This compound has been detected in wastewater and chlorinated drinking water, where it is produced as an intermediate. 3-(Trifluoromethyl)pyridine inhibits hepatic enzymes such as cytochrome P450, hydroxymethylglutaryl coenzyme A reductase, and glutathione S-transferase.
